The Atlanta Artists Center (AAC) is a dynamic, growing
organization of artists and those who enjoy and support the visual arts. With
more than 430 members across metro Atlanta, AAC is the oldest, largest and one
of the most active non-government-supported organizations of artists in the
Southeast. In 2004,
the AAC celebrated its 50th anniversary.
Our mission is twofold: to support the
growth and development of members by providing opportunities to increase their
skills and share their understanding and knowledge of visual arts through
exhibition experience, a variety of educational programs and networking with
other artists; and to support and expand the visual arts in the community to
targeted outreach audiences through education, exhibitions and special
programming.
AAC owns and operates its own Grandview Gallery and studio/workshop /meeting
facility at 2979 Grandview Avenue in Buckhead. AAC is a meeting center for
artists for the exchange of ideas, information and methods as well as for sketch
groups, workshops, art demonstrations and
activities. The Center mounts a monthly juried exhibition and sale of members'
works at Grandview Gallery and at several special outside exhibitions throughout
the year. In addition, AAC provides opportunities for members to participate in
community art programs.
We meet on the third Monday of every month at 7:00 PM. Each meeting features
a demonstration or lecture on an arts-related topic. Following the program is a
social hour in which members and guests can meet and chat. We invite you to join
us--as a member, as a guest at our meetings and demonstrations, as a participant
in our sketch groups , classes and workshops and as a frequent guest to our
Grandview Gallery to see our juried member exhibitions of fine art.
Atlanta Artists Center
Community Outreach
The Atlanta Artists Center has a long history of community outreach. Among our
more recent activities are:
Home Is Where the Heart Is – a show and sale of works by AAC members to
benefit the Rabun County Habitat for Humanity. A raffle of an original painting
by internationally known artist and AAC member, Martha Bator, was part of the
fund-raising effort.
Labor of Love – AAC artists donated 30 paintings, each to serve as a
focal piece in the renovation of the labor, delivery and recovery rooms in the
Grace Towns Hamilton Women’s & Children’s Pavilion of Grady Hospital in Atlanta.
Hands-On Atlanta – AAC artists, for several years, have donated time, energy
and talent in painting murals in Atlanta elementary schools during the annual
citywide Hands-On Atlanta program.
Libraries, medical clinics and after-school art programs - AAC provides
fine art for four Atlanta public libraries and hangs fine art in two Emory
University medical clinics year-round; provides artworks for an addiction
recovery center; and offers an after-school art program for school children.
