Artists For Africa
|
AAC is proud to host "Artists For Africa," an art sale benefitting the African Children's Art Project.
Submissions will be held August 6 - 8 from 10 AM - 3 PM. All artists are asked to donate one piece of artwork for sale on August 9 and 10.If you have any questions, email Lisa Moore at jacklaw2@bellsouth.net.
The Mission:
African Children's Art Project enriches the lives of orphaned and destitute children in Kenya by providing after-school art programs.
The Current Crisis:
• Malaria and AIDS have ravaged the African continent, virtually eliminating the entire working-age generation in many parts of Africa, including Kenya.
• There are currently more than one million orphans living in Kenya alone and the numbers are rising rapidly.
• Many of these orphans have witnessed the painful suffering and death of one or both parents, and nearly all live in unspeakable poverty.
The Role of Art
Creating art helps children express complex feelings and emotions that are often difficult to verbalize. Art begins the healing process which is essential to their ultimate happiness. Art also helps with the development of identity, contributing to a positive self-image and self-esteem.
The Role of African Children's Art Project
• African Children's Art Project currently provides after-school art classes for over one-hundred and sixty children, on the rural outskirts of Nairobi, and Lake Naivasha, Kenya. Classes are taught at two registered art centers.
• African Children's Art Project pays all program expenses, which include: art supplies, a luncheon meal for each child, teachers' salaries, facility rental fees, photography, shipping, computer imaging, data entry, website management and website maintenance.
• Every child receives a meal at each session.
• The classes are taught by two renowned Kenyan artists, Waynu Brush and Sane Wadu.
• African Children's Art Project maintains a website to raise awareness of the situation in Kenya, and to market the artwork of the children.
